Keep studying over the summer
Looking for a way to keep up your language learning over the summer? Whether you’re learning Spanish, French, Mandarin, or any other language, staying consistent during the summer months can help you maintain fluency and even make real progress. We have created a simple summer language study plan, designed to keep you motivated, organized, and having fun.
Start with a weekly routine. Aim to study your target language for 30 to 45 minutes, Monday through Friday. Use Saturday for fun immersion activities like watching movies or listening to music in the language. On Sunday, take time to review what you’ve learned.
To make your language learning effective, mix up your study methods. Learn 5–10 new vocabulary words daily using apps like Anki or Memrise. Practice grammar with short exercises and write journal entries a few times a week. Improve your listening and speaking skills by using language exchange apps like Tandem or HelloTalk, and try shadowing native speakers through videos or podcasts.
Reading is also key. Choose short stories, news articles, or graded readers to build comprehension. Highlight new words and review them regularly.
Set monthly goals to stay on track. For example, learn 300 new words in June, have a short conversation in July, and write a one-page essay in August. Make learning fun by translating songs, playing language games, or watching dubbed shows.
Track your progress with a journal or app, and reflect weekly. Join online language communities or find a study buddy to stay accountable. Most importantly, be kind to yourself—missed days are okay, and every small win counts. Download our free customisable summer learning plan and get started today!
